Colorado is full of tourist attractions to please all.  Every direction from Schriever AFB offers a new adventure. Visit Santa's Workshop at the North Pole, enjoy a sporting event in Denver, or trek into the beautiful Rocky Mountains for some hiking or skiing.  There's too much to see and do!  Let us take you on a brief tour of some of what Colorado has to offer.

BOULDER-  Celestial Seasonings Tour of Tea-   Located at 4600 Sleepytime Drive.  Take a tour through the headquarters of Celestial Seasonings.   Guided tours:  Mon - Sat 10 - 3 except major holidays.  Children under 5 are only allowed limited access.  Tours are FREE.  For information call:  800.525.0347

BOULDER-  U of C Museum of National History-  Located at 15th St and Broadway in the Henderson Bldg.    Exhibits visit the natural history of the American Southwest and Great Plains.  HOURS: Mon - Fri 9 - 5, Sat 9 - 4 and Sun 10 - 4;  closed on holidays.  Cost is Donation.  For information call:  303.492.6892

BOULDER-  Collage Children's Museum-  Located at 2065 30th Street.  Full of hands-on activities for younger children.  Hours:  Mon, Wed - Sat 10 - 5, Sun 1 - 5.  Call for Admission.  303.440.9894.

CANON CITY-  Buckskin Joe Frontier Town and Railway-  Located on CR 3A.  This replica mining town was reconstructed from historical buildings moved from several towns dating back to the 1850s.  Fun for the whole family;  watch gun fights on the main street, pan for gold, tour the mine, or buy a treat at the general store.  Restaurant on site.  Call for hours and admission fees.  For information call:  719.275.5149

CANON CITY-  Royal Gorge Bridge and Park-  Located off from US 50.   Visit the World's highest suspension bridge.  Call for hours and admission fees.  For information call:  719.275.7507

CENTRAL CITY/ BLACKHAWK-  These former mining towns are again offering visitors a chance to pursue riches;  this time at their many casinos. 

COLORADO SPRINGS-  Bear Creek Nature Center-  Located at 245 Bear Creek Road.  Has nature trails and wildlife exhibits.   Hours:  Tues - Sat 9 - 4;  closed holidays.  The park and trails are open from dawn to dusk daily.  Cost is FREE.  For information call:  719.520.6387

COLORADO SPRINGS-  El Pomar Carriage Museum-  Located at 16 Lake Circle (in front of the Broadmoor resort).  Collection of old vehicles, coaches, and horse riding accessories on display.  Hours:  Mon - Sat 10 - 5, Sun 1 - 5;  closed some holidays.  Cost is FREE.  For information call:  719.634.7711, ext. 5353

COLORADO SPRINGS-  Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site-  Located at the entrance of Garden of the Gods park off from 30th Street.    This is a living history museum/farm that depicts Indian and pioneer life.   Hours:  Wed - Sun 10 - 5 (June - August).  Cost is  Adult:  $5, Over 54:  $3, 13-18: $3, 6-12: $1.  For information call:  719.578.6777.

COLORADO SPRINGS-  Santa's Workshop/North Pole-  Located just off from Hwy 24.   This large Christmas-themed amusement park is located at the foot of Pikes Peak.  Rides, shops, and Santa's house.   Hours:  9 - 5:30 daily (June 1 - Mid-August), Fri - Tues 10 - 5 (May 20 - May 31 and mid-August - Dec 24).  Cost is $15.95, over age 59: $6.95, under 2: Free.  For information call 719.684.9432.

CREEDE-  Underground Mining Museum-  Located north of Jct SR149 and Creede Ave.    The museum is in rooms blasted into the solid rock.  Exhibits follow the history of mining.  Hours:  Mon - 5 10 - 6, Sat and Sun 10 - 4.  Cost is $6, over age 59 $5, ages 6 - 12 $4.  For information call 719.658.0811.

CRIPPLE CREEK-  Molly Kathleen Gold Mine-  Located on SR67.  Take a tour 1000 feet underground.  Hours:  daily 9 - 5 (May - Oct).  Cost is $15, ages 3 - 11 $7.  For information call 719.689.2465.

DENVER-  Black American West Museum & Heritage Center-   Located at 3091 California Street.  Museum is housed in the former home of the first female African-American doctor in Colorado.  Exhibits look at the history of African-American pioneers, soldiers and cowboys in the Old West.  Hours:  daily 10 - 5 (June - Aug),  Wed - Fri 10 - 2, Sat & Sun 10 - 5 (Sept - May).  Closed some holidays.  Cost is $6, over age 64 $5.50, ages 5 - 12 $4.  Call for information:  303.292.2566

DENVER-  Museum of Nature & Science-  Located at 2001 Colorado Blvd.  This 3-story museum is one of the largest natural history museums in the country.  Has a variety of exhibits.  There is an IMAX theater and planetarium on site.  Hours:  daily 9 - 5;  closed on Christmas.  Cost is $9, over age 59 and ages 3 - 18 $6.  Additional fees for the IMAX and planetarium.  For information call:  800.925.2250.

DENVER-  Four Mile Historic Park-  Located at 715 S. Forest Street.   Tour this pioneer farm which at one time served as a stage coach stop.  It features the oldest remaining house in Denver.   Hours:  Wed - Fri Noon - 4, Sat & Sun 10 - 4 (April - Sept).  Sat & Sun Noon - 4 (Oct - March).  Cost is $3.50, over ages 64 and ages 6 - 15 $2.  For information call:  303.399.1859.

DENVER-  Six Flags Elitch Gardens-  Located off I-25 at exit 212A.  This theme park features over 50 rides, shows and attractions.   Call for hours and admission.  303.595.4386.

DURANGO-  Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad & Museum-  Located at 479 Main Ave.  Take a ride on a coal-fired steam locomotive through the beautiful mountains.   Visit the museum in the roundhouse to see displays of locomotives and railroad art.  Call for hours and admission.  970.247.2733.

ESTES PARK-  Enos Mills Cabin Museum-  Located on SR7.  Visit the historic cabin of author Enos A. Mills.  There is a gallery of photographs taken by Mills and some nature trails.   Call for hours.  Cost is $5,  ages 6 - 12 $2.50.  For information call 970.586.4706.

ESTES PARK-  Rocky Mountain National Park-  Follow signs from Estes Park.  Beautiful views and great areas for wildlife viewing.    Call for hours.  Cost is $20 per private vehicle.  For information call 970.586.1206

FAIRPLAY-  South Park City Museum-  Located at 4th and Front St.  Walk the streets of this restored Colorado gold-mining town.  There are 35 buildings which are either on their original site or were moved from the surrounding towns.   Hours:  daily 9 - 7 (Memorial Day - Labor Day), 9 - 5 (May 15 - Memorial Day and Labor Day - Oct 15).  Cost is $6.50, ages 6 - 12 $3.  For information call 719.836.2387.

FRUITA-  Museum of Western Colorado's Dinosaur Journey-  Located at 550 Jurassic Ct.  An educational and research facility with animated recreations of dinosaurs. GLENWOOD SPRINGS-  Iron Mountain Tramway-  Located at 51000 Two Rivers Plaza Road.  Travel 4300 feet to the top of Iron Mountain via gondola.  Call for hours.  Cost is $10, over age 64 $9, ages 3 - 12 $7.  For information call:  970.945.4228.

GOLDEN-  Clear Creek History Park-  Located west of Washington Ave on 11th Street.  This 19th century homestead depicts Colorado pioneer life.  Historic buildings include a schoolhouse and blacksmith shop.  Hours:  Tues - Sat 10 - 4:30 (Memorial Day - Aug 31), Sat 10 - 4:30 (May and Oct).  Closed July 4.  Cost is $3, under age 13 $2.  For information call 303.278.3557

GOLDEN-  Heritage Square-  Located South of US 6 on US 40 (there are signs directing from I-25).  This amusement park is built around the theme of a 1880s town.  There are rides, an alpine slide,  shops and restaurant.  Call for hours and cost.  303.279.2789.

GOLDEN-  National Renewable Energy Laboratory Visitors Center-  15013 Denver West Pkwy.  Interactive exhibits about solar, wind and other renewable energy.  Hours:  Mon - Fri 9 - 5.  Closed major holidays.  Cost is FREE.  For information call 303.384.6565.

GRAND JUNCTION-  Cross Orchards Historic Farm-  Located at 3073 Patterson Rd.    Learn about early social and agricultural history at this turn-of-the-century apple orchard.  Tour the buildings and visit the agricultural exhibits.  Hours:  Tues - Sat 9 - 4 (mid-April - mid-Oct).  Cost is $4, over age 59 $3, ages 3 - 12 $2.50.  For information call 970.434.9814

GREAT SAND DUNES NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE-  Located 38 miles northeast of Alamosa on US 160 and SR150.   Walk the dunes, some which are 750 feet high.  Call for hours.  Admission is $3, under age 17 is Free.  For information call 719.378.6399.

JULESBURG-  Fort Sedgwick Museum-   Located at 114 E. 1st Street.  Houses exhibits of the history of the Fort and Julesburg.    Call for hours and admission.  970.474.2061.

LA VETA-  Francisco Fort Museum-  Located at 306 S. Main St.  The 1862 fort features displays of fort life, fossils and Indian pottery.  Hours:  Tues - Sat 10 - 4 (Memorial Day - early Oct).  Cost is $4, over 65 and ages 9 - 17 $3.  For information call 719.742.5501.

LEADVILLE-  Leadville National Fish Hatchery-  SR300.  One of the oldest fish hatcheries in the federal system.  The visitor center offers information on the history of the  hatchery and other educational information.  Hours:  daily 7:30 - 4.  Cost is FREE.  For information call 719.486.0189.

MANITOU SPRINGS-  Pikes Peak Cog Railway-  Located at 515 Ruxton Ave.   Take a beautiful ride to the top of Pikes Peak.  Call for hours.  Cost is $28, ages 3 - 11 $16.  RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED.  719.685.5401.

MESA VERDE NATIONAL PARK-  Located 9 miles east of Cortez.  600 cliff dwellings and 5000 archeological sites in this 80 square mile National Park.    Call for hours.   Cost is $10 per private vehicle.  For information call 970.529.5036.

MORRISON-  Morrison Natural History Museum-  Located at 501 SR8.  Interactive exhibits showing local dinosaur finds and local geology and ecology.  Dig for fossils and view the live reptiles and amphibians.  Call for hours.  Cost is $2, senior citizens and students with ID $1.50, under age 3 is Free.  For information call 303.697.1873. 

OURAY-  Bachelor-Syracuse Mine-  Follow the signs from CR14.  Take a mine train 3350 feet into Gold Hill.  Hours:  daily 9 - 4 (May 20 - June 30 and Aug 1 - Sept 15), daily 9 - 5 (July).  Cost is $15.95, ages 4 - 11 $7.95.  For information call 970.325.0220.

PAGOSA SPRINGS-  Fred Harman Art Museum-  Located at 2560 US 160W.   See the art of famous Western painter and illustrator Fred Harman (illustrator of the famous "Red Ryder" comic).  Hours:  Mon - Sat 10:30 - 5, Sun noon - 4 (Memorial Day - Labor Day), Mon - Fri 10:30 - 5 (remainder of year).  Cost is $3, ages 5 - 10 .50 cents.  for information call 970.731.5785.

PLATTEVILLE-  Fort Vasquez Museum-  Located at 13412 US 85.  Replica of the original fort.  The museum features exhibits about the fur trade, American Indian culture, and the history of the fort.  Hours:  Mon - Sat 9:30 - 4:30, Sun 1 - 4:30 (Memorial Day- Labor Day), Wed - Sat 9:30 - 4:30, Sun 1 - 4:30 (remainder of year).  Cost is FREE.  For information call 970.785.2832.

PUEBLO-  Rock Canyon Water Slide-  Located at 640 Pueblo Reservoir Blvd in Lake Pueblo State Park.  Enjoy a beach, waterslide, bumper boats and paddleboats.    Call for hours and admission.  719.561.2111.

SALIDA- Mount Shavano State Fish Hatchery-  Located on CR154.   Produces more than 2 million fish each year.  Hours:  Daily 7:30 - 4.  Cost is Donation.  For information call 719.539.6877.

SILVERTON-  Mayflower Gold Mill Tour-  Located on SR110. Former miners demonstrate the mill's original equipment.  Hours:  daily 10 - 5 (Memorial Day - Sept 30).  Cost is $6.50, over age 59 $5.50, under 13 Free.  For information call 970.387.0294.
