Colorado Springs is approximately one hour south of Denver. It is well worth the
trip to visit the many tourist attractions throughout the city. It is also home to
the Air Force Academy and Peterson Air Force Base. You may wish to go there to visit
the large Commissary and BX.
Though growing quickly (a population of 361,000), the Springs still offers a friendly
small town atmosphere to those who visit. The pace seems a bit more laid back than
its larger neighbor to the north.
Among the many tourist attractions you may want to visit are:
PIKES PEAK- Be sure
to drive to the top to see the view that inspired 'America the Beautiful'.
There is also a Cogway that can be taken to the top and offers not only a
wonderful view but also a relaxing journey up the mountain.
GARDEN OF
THE GODS- The beautiful red rock formations are gorgeous. Take a walk or hike among the towering red rocks for
FREE. There is also a museum for a fee.
CHEYENNE MOUNTAIN ZOO- Make sure you
are ready for a walk when you visit this zoo built on the side of a
mountain (not very stroller friendly).
SEVEN FALLS- A summer time
visit to the lit up Falls will complete your trip to Colorado Springs.
Make sure to wear your walking shoes and climb all the way to the top!
NORTH POLE- If you have
little ones (or Christmas lovers) don't forget to visit Santa's Workshop for a fun day of
rides and shopping at the foot of Pikes Peak. Complete your visit
with a trip to Santa's House to talk to the big guy himself!
CAVE OF THE WINDS-
Walk through 20 cave rooms and see the spectacular laser light show.
There is a fee for this tour but it is definitely worth it. This is
probably not suitable for younger children as strollers are not allowed
and there are many areas with slippery footing.
ROYAL GORGE BRIDGE- A
trip across the world's highest suspension bridge isn't for the faint hearted!
AIR FORCE ACADEMY-
Whether you visit the chapel or take in a football game, a trip to the Academy will leave
you feeling truly patriotic.
MANITOU CLIFF DWELLINGS-
Take a step back to the dwellings of the Anasazi.
